PESHAWAR: Four persons belonging to transgender community were injured in a firing incident in the provincial capital here on Sunday.
According to police sources, some unidentified persons opened fire on four transgenders on Ring Road in Peshawar. As a result, they sustained injuries and were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital. The police have registered a case against the assailants.
Crimes against transgender community are on the rise in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
In March, two transgender people were killed in two separate firing incidents in Peshawar and Mardan.
Reportedly, a transgender named Sabir and another person were fired upon at Mardan Charsadda Chowk. As a result, Sabir died on the spot while the other person got injured.
In another incident of the same nature, some unknown men riding a motorcycle opened fire on the vehicle of transgender people near the city museum in Mardan.
According to police, a transgender identified as Coconut was killed and another person was hurt in the firing incident.
In January, a transgender became prey to a crossfire and died instantly during a wedding ceremony in Bannu.
