Two brothers killed: Pregnant woman set on fire in Gujrat

GUJRAT/GUJRANWALA: A 22-year-old pregnant woman was allegedly set on fire by her in-laws over a minor issue in Jalalpur Jattan area of Gujrat while two brothers were shot dead by some unidentified assailants in a separate incident in Gujranwala on Sunday.

According to the victim’s family, Iqra was married to Iftekhar six months ago and was pregnant when her husband’s sister subjected her to brutal torture and then setting her ablaze after dousing her with petrol.

Soon after the incident, Iqra was taken to a hospital by the family where she fought for life for a week but succumbed to her burns. The grief-stricken family staged a protest against the police for failing to take any action. They also staged a protest by blocking Gujrat to Azad Kashmir main GT Road.

“We will not call off the protest until justice is served to us,” said the family. The family continued the protest by placing the dead body in Katchehry Chowk and burned tires to block the traffic.

Meanwhile, two brothers were shot dead by some unidentified assailants in broad daylight in Saddr police precinct in Gujranwala.

The deceased, identified as Usman and Irfan, were going from Chicharwali to Solakhanabad of the Gujranwala district of Punjab.

Unidentified gunmen attacked the deceased through a car stopped over at a point where the duo was passing by. Lawmen and rescuers rushed to the spot. Bodies were taken to a hospital. An investigation is underway.
