Dispelling rumors, PML-Q reiterates commitment to stand by Pervaiz Elahi

LAHORE: Dispelling all rumours going round about change of government in Punjab, the PML-Q parliamentary party on Tuesday reposed trust in the leadership of Pervaiz Elahi, saying the party stands by the chief minister with full parliamentary, political and public strength.

“We repose full confidence in the leadership of Pervaiz Elahi. He was our leader and will remain in future as well.”

The PML-Q leaders reiterated the support to Ch Pervaiz Elahi during a parliamentary party meeting held here with Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi in the chair.

PML-Q Punjab Assembly members including Sajid Bhatti, Hafiz Ammar Yasir, Shujaat Nawaz, Muhammad Abdullah Warraich, Muhammad Rizwan, Ehsanul Haq, Muhammad Afzal, Khadija Umar and Basma Chaudhary attended the parliamentary party meeting.

According to party sources, the meeting took place against the backdrop of “efforts” and rumours about a change in government in Punjab.

There are reports and rumours, and even claims by PDM leaders about “maneuvers for overthrow” of the PTI and PML-Q coalition government in Punjab.

Addressing the meeting, the Punjab CM declared that the PML-Q is united and would rise to all challenges, adding that all conspiracies would be foiled and the conspirators must read writing on the wall. “The PDM leadership will face defeat at every turn”, he declared. “Together we will advance the journey of serving the masses at a brisk pace,” the Punjab CM reiterated the pledge. He regretted that rumor mongers are following a “specific agenda” and they only wanted to hamper the journey of public service and prosperity.

During the meeting, the parliamentary party members expressed that they stand by and will continue to stand with Pervaiz Elahi. They and asserted that Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi was their leader and the party stood by the side of Ch Pervaiz Elahi with full parliamentary, political and public strength. “The ideal alliance of PML-Q and PTI has been delivering to the people under the leadership of CM Pervaiz Elahi,” they noted and added they were ready to thwart every conspiracy aimed at hurting unity in the party.

On the other hand, Minister for Defence Khawaja Muhammad Asif said the government of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) coalition believes a change of government in Punjab will stable the nation’s political landscape. He confirmed speculation about the central government flexing muscles for a change of government in Punjab.

Kh Asif suggested that a change in Punjab, which is being governed by a coalition of PTI and PML-Q of Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, would bring upheaval to existing uncertainty.

“We are working on it politically and the change will certainly bring an end to this uncertainty,” he told in an interview with a private TV channel. He, however, did not elaborate on the means to achieve the feat since his PML-N party and its partners in the ruling PDM coalition are well short of the magic number required to dethrone Elahi, chief minister of Punjab.

The federal defense minister confirmed fears expressed by Imran Khan who has claimed that a conspiracy is being hatched to topple his government in Punjab, alleging that the ministers in the province in the province were being threatened to accept bribes being offered by mysterious “Mr X” and “Mr Y”, pointing apparently to the military establishment.
