SWAT: Five persons including former Village Defense Committee leader Idrees Khan were killed in a remote-controlled blast in Kotakey area of Kabal Tehsil of Swat here on Tuesday.
Swat District police officer (DPO) Zahid Nawaz Marwat confirmed that Idrees Khan and his two police guards – Head Constable Rambail and Constable Tauheed along with two others persons were killed in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast.
DPO Marwat told the media that it was a remote-controlled bomb blast. He said five people including peace committee member Idrees Khan and two policemen were killed in the blast.
“Idrees Khan along with two police guards was returning from Kotakay area to his village Bara Bandai when a remote control bomb planted in a dirt track went off, leaving all those who were in the vehicle killed on the spot”, DPO Marwat said.
The local people rushed them to Civil Hospital Kabal. One the dead body was identified as Sanaullah while the second one could not be identified.
After the incident, the law enforcement agencies cordoned off the area and started search operations in the area.
According to the police, six to seven kilograms of explosives were used in the bomb blast.
Meanwhile, the vehicle Khan was travelling in was completely destroyed, Fayaz said, adding that the police have cordoned off the area.
Nobody has claimed responsibility for the blast so far.
Immediately after the blast, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan took notice of the incident and sought a report from the inspector general of police.
He extended condolences to the family members of the deceased and said he was saddened by the loss of lives. “The sacrifices of the martyred will not go in waste. The culprits will be brought to justice,” CM Khan vowed.
7 officials working on mobile tower abducted
Meanwhile, 7 officials working on the tower of the International Mobile Company were abducted by unidentified armed persons in Chuprial area of Tehsil Matta.
Among the abducted persons are Engineer Yousaf Shah, Muhammad Khalid, Arsalan, Muhammad Asbar Malik, Abdul Hakeem Driver and Waqt Ali Labor.
The police officials said it seem the abducted persons have been shifted to an unknown location, adding that efforts are on to recover the abducted persons.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi condemned the blast near the car of Idris Khan, a member of the peace committee in Swat and expressed a deep sense of sorrow over the death of five persons including Idris Khan. He extended sympathies to bereaved heirs and prayed for early recovery of the injured.
