Four kids die as gastro epidemic in Khairpur

KHAIRPUR: Four more children died of gastro outbreak in flood-hit Khairpur during the past 24 hours, raising the number of children died from gastro 21 across the district.

Following the recent rains and flood ravages across Khairpur district, gastroenteritis spread has assumed epidemic proportions among children as well as adults. According to health authorities, four more children including two girls died of gastro during the past 24 hours.

They informed that the deceased children included: four-year-old Irshad died in the city hospital, a boy and a girl died in Tehsil Nara and 9-year-old boy lost life to gastro in Tehsil Thari Mirwah.

The sources in the health department divulged that more than 280 children are undergoing treatment for gastro in various hospitals including City Hospital Khairpur and Civil Hospital Khairpur.

Furthermore, the hospitals are running short of beds and compelled to keep three to four children on a single bed. The families complained that there is a lack of medicines in the hospitals and there is no sanitation.

According to the locals, children are losing their lives due to the lack of doctors in the emergency. The arrangements should be improved by imposing emergency in hospitals, they demanded.
