FIA raids home of PTI senator in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: The cyber crime wing of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) raided early on Wednesday the residence of Senator Saifullah Khan Niazi of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and confiscated his laptop, mobile phone and electronic gadgets.

People familiar with the matter said FIA suspected that namanzoor.com, a website documenting the list of party’s donors, was being operated from his residence.

The agency secured search warrants from the office of a judicial magistrate to conduct the raid.

The move was condemned by Khan’s cousin and former prime minister Imran Khan who accused the “imported” government and its “handlers” of trying to push him against the wall. “I am warning them there will be consequences they will have to face,” he tweeted.

Fawad Chaudhry, a former information minister and party’s senior vice president, demanded the Senate chairman must take action against those who carried out “this outrageous act”.

“Saifullah Niazi is a senator. Raiding his house, taking away his laptop and phone and harassing him is another achievement of this so-called government,” he said.
