ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has served a notice to Senator Shaukat Tarin of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), asking him to join the investigation of a “leaked” audio conversation with Taimoor Saleem Jhagra, finance minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He has been summoned to the agency’s office in Islamabad on Wednesday at 10 am.
In the purported conversation, Tarin could be heard asking Jhagra to write a letter to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), saying the provincial government won’t be able to fulfil its conditions for the release of a $1 billion loan tranche.
The federal government had accused the PTI of attempting to push Pakistan toward a default. Miftah Ismail, central finance minister, asked Jhagra to resign and Tarin to quit politics for what he declared as an attempt to “sabotage” Pakistan’s interests.
