ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Association Dubai (PAD) has dispatched 300 tonnes of aid to Pakistan’s different flood-hit areas, Emirates media reported on Sunday.
Around Dh1.7 million worth of aid and seven containers have been dispersed in different cities of Pakistan to support millions of people affected by heavy rains and floods in the last few months.
On September 5, the Association, in collaboration with the Dar Al Ber Society and the Department of Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities, launched an emergency appeal for donations to support the flood victims.
The Association is also participating in the national initiative of the UAE aid under the theme “We Stand Together” and also mobilised the community to support its countrymen, Khaleej Times reported.
It is estimated that the death toll from the devastating floods has surpassed 1,600 while over 13,000 have been injured.
Authorities in Pakistan have estimated that over 33 million people have been directly affected by the unprecedented floods which have submerged huge swathes of the country, resulting in a large number of people living in make-shift tents. Over 1.1 million cattle and domestic animals have died in the heavy rains and floods.
The Pakistan Association Dubai has also dispatched over 3,575 food packages, 3,400 kg of cloths, 7,200kg of dry ration, 1,300-plus tents and tarpaulins, 2,500 kg of dates, 350 kg of hygiene items, 750 blankets, 200 kg shoes, 520kg of crockery and much more.
AKF sends three truckloads of relief goods
The Al-Khidmat Foundation (AKF) Sargodha on Sunday dispatched three truckloads containing food items, bedsheets, blankets, coolers and clothes costing millions of rupees to flood-hit area of Kot Mithan.
District President Mian Izhaarul Haq said the foundation would continue relief activities for flood-hit people till their complete rehabilitation. He thanked people for donation to the Al-Khidmat foundation. He said that rehabilitation of 30 million flood victims was a big challenge which needed a comprehensive strategy for the distribution of financial aid transparently at government level.
Italy sends first planeload of relief items
Two flights carrying tonnes of relief goods for flood-ravaged people have arrived in Pakistan from Saudi Arabia and Italy on Sunday.
The first plane carrying relief goods from Italy landed in Karachi and was received by adviser to Chief Minister Sindh on Relief and Rehabilitation Rasool Bakhsh Chandio.
The relief flight was also welcomed by the Italian Consul General, Director General Foreign Ministry, Pakistan forces and representatives of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
Similarly, another plane carrying relief goods from Saudi Arabia has also landed in Karachi in continuation of humanitarian assistance from the brotherly country.
It merits here to mention that Saudi Arabia has so far sent seven relief planes to Pakistan.
