Haris debuts to become 99th player for Pakistan in T20

LAHORE: Wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Haris made his T20I debut for Pakistan in the sixth match of the series against England played at Qaddafi Stadium.

With debut, the 21-year-old became the 99th player for Pakistan to play in this format.

Haris kept wickets in the fifth T20I as a substitute for Mohammad Rizwan, who received a blow on his back while batting. Rizwan was rest for the sixth game against on Friday and Haris opened the innings with skipper Babar Azam.

Previously, Haris has represented Pakistan in four ODIs. Wicket-keeper batter Mohammad Haris made his T20 international debut in the sixth game against England, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced.

The PCB said the 21-year-old replaced Mohammad Rizwan in the playing XI. Haris was handed his debut in one-day internationals against West Indies this year at Multan Cricket Stadium and has so far played four ODIs for his side.

The young batter had caught the attention of everyone during his Pakistan Super League stint for Peshawar Zalmi in the recent season and had replaced Kamran Akmal in the Zalmi line-up.

“I am very excited over my debut, I have made my debut in ODIs and now I am doing it in T20Is,” said Haris in a video posted by the Pakistan Cricket Board.

“This is a different level, obviously we are witnessing last-over matches, last two games were like that. So this is an opportunity for me to enhance my skills and playing against a top side like England.

“I am super excited, since I am playing in place of the World No 1 batter so I will try to perform like him. Playing against a side like England, the pressure is obviously there.

“T20 is different cricket, a match can be changed within one over. But I am taking all these things as positive pressure. My teammates have always supported me and I will try to take this pressure as positive.”

England and Pakistan are currently competing in a seven-match T20I series. With victory in Friday’s match, both Pakistan and level the series with 3 matches win each.
