LAHORE/OKARA: More than 21 new buildings are being constructed for providing quality education to special children in different districts of Punjab at a cost of Rs1.1 billion, said Secretary Special Education Saima Saeed after inauguration of newly-constructed building of Govt Special Education Centre Okara.
The secretary Special Education said that 303 institutions are currently working for the education and training of special children, in which about 38,000 special children are being educated, and all the facilities are being provided by the government for free. There are about 600 buses for free pick and drop of special children, adding that special children are also being provided with three uniforms annually.
Saima Saeed said that the Punjab government has also introduced Vocational Matric to make the children skilled, in which skills are also taught to the children along with education. She further said that in some districts, educational institutions for special children are located in rented buildings, regarding which she has issued instructions to the local administration to provide land for the institutions of special children as soon as possible so that we will construct buildings of special education.
