PTI-backed Zuberi wins Supreme Court Bar Association polls

ISLAMABAD: Abid Shahid Zuberi of the Professional Group of lawyers also known as the Hamid Khan group has been elected president of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) for 2022-23.

Advocate Hamid Khan is considered a central leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e- Insaf and a close ally of its chairman Imran Khan.

As per unofficial results, Abid Zuberi won by a margin of 199 votes. Abid got 1347 votes while his close rival Khalid Javed of the late Asma Jahangir group got 1148 votes. Abid Shahid Zuberi has defeated Khalid Javed in 12 polling stations across the country. Hamid Khan Group has won the battle after three years.

As per unofficial results declared by the presiding officer, Abid Shahid Zuberi of the Professional Group’s President Candidate and Khalid Javed of the Independent Group’s President Candidate bagged 470 votes each in the Lahore Registry elections.

Abid Shahid Zuberi of Professional Group won from Karachi by four votes. Abid Zuberi secured 170 votes while his close contestant Khalid Javed of Independent Group got 166 votes. Khawaja Naveed Advocate got one vote, Khalil Dogar secured four votes and Jameel Ahmed Advocate could get one vote. Four votes were declared rejected.

Khalid Javed from the Asma Jahangir group won by one vote from Multan. Khalid Javed secured 75 votes, while his close opponent Abid Shahid Zuberi of Hamid Khan Group got 74 votes.

Abid Zuberi is also successful from the principal seat of Islamabad as he got 251 votes while his close rival Khalid Javed of Asma Jahangir Group got 227 votes.

Ahmad Zuberi also grabbed the first position in the Peshawar registry elections. He bagged 92 votes while Khalid Javed came second with 89 votes.
