Multan hospital hands over 55 bodies to charity for burial

MULTAN: At least 55 unclaimed bodies from Nishtar Hospital in Multan have been handed over to the Edhi Foundation for burial, the facility’s management said on Wednesday.

Previously, 76 unidentified bodies were buried in various graveyards of the city, it said. “DNA samples of the dead bodies have been collected.”

Overall, 131 bodies have so far been buried.

Last month, an adviser to the Punjab Chief Minister spotted mutilated bodies left abandoned on the roof of the hospital.

Several videos roaming the Internet showed the horrors of the hospital’s dead house packed with rotten bodies. The bodies and some old wooden cots were thrown on the floor.

Following the discovery, an inquiry committee was formed by the Punjab government to hold responsible persons accountable.

In light of the inquiry report, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi ordered the suspension of three doctors and two policemen over alleged negligence in the matter.
