Economic woes threat to national survival, security: Imran

  • Calls for signing online petition to raise voice for Swati
  • Lauds support, political cooperation of MWM

LAHORE: PTI Chairman and former Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday said that economic woes were threaten national security, elaborating on that rapidly deteriorating economic situation was bringing extraordinary threats to national survival and security.

PTI Chairman and former Prime Minister Imran Khan was talking to a high-level delegation of Majlis Wahdatul Muslimeen (MWM) led Allama Raja Nasir Abbas here on Tuesday. During the meeting, the political situation, cooperation between the two parties and matters of mutual interest were discussed in detail.

Speaking about the current economic situation, Imran underlined importance of rule of law, the former prime minister said: “The supremacy of the Constitution and law was a prerequisite for sustainable development.

Imran urged people of all schools of thought to play due part in the movement to lead Pakistan on the path to supremacy of the constitution and law.

On the occasion, the MWM leadership congratulated Imran Khan on organizing “Haqeeqi Azadi” march in Rawalpindi and reiterated full support for his political strategy.

“Noting that the country suffers from the most complex political and economic challenges, Allama Raja Nasir Abbas said and added that “actual freedom” narrative had extraordinary acceptance across all schools of thought.

Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, who stressed the need for early, fair and transparent polls, said that the MWM fully supported the PTI chief’s narrative and would support the leadership in every phase of the political struggle.

Meanwhile, Imran Khan said he valued the political cooperation of the MWM, adding that the participation of the MWM workers and leaders in the ‘actual freedom’ march in Rawalpindi is commendable.

SIGN ONLINE PETITION TO RAISE VOICE FOR SWATI

Former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan on Tuesday called for signing an online petition to raise voice for PTI Senator Azam Swati, arrested for the second time for allegedly tweeting against senior military officials on Sunday.

The petition shared by the former premier on his official Twitter handle claimed that Senator Swati’s life is in danger and he was arrested for free speech, after being charged with multiple false first information reports (FIRs).

“I have signed this petition; and I want all those who are appalled at what Azam Swati continues to go through & those who care about rule of law & human rights should also sign this petition.

“[Azam Swati is] in custody of same perpetrators who physically & sexually tortured him Before. He was protesting his right of free speech outside the Supreme Court of Pakistan to no avail. He is arrested again .Pakistan is under fascist regime. We need help,” it added.

“I have signed this petition; and I want all those who are appalled at what Azam Swati continues to go through & those who care about rule of law & human rights should also sign this petition,” the former premier said in a tweet.

INITIAL FIR

An FIR against Swati was registered by the FIA Cyber Crime Wing on November 26, over ‘controversial’ tweets he had posted allegedly against government functionaries, including the then chief of the army staff (COAS).

The report maintained that the PTI leader had started a “highly obnoxious campaign of intimidating tweets” against state institutions, including the army chief “with malafide intentions and ulterior motives”.

The FIR was registered on the complaint of the state through Islamabad Cyber Crime Reporting Centre Technical Assistant Aneesur Rehman.
