ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Police Wednesday bypassed the District Administration in notifying a five-member committee to investigate the Arshad Sharif murder case.
The office of IG Islamabad on Wednesday issued notification with regard to constitution of special joint investigation team to probe into FIR No 987/22 dated 6/12/2022 u/s 302/34-PPC police station Ramna Islamabad.
On the request made by the SSP/Investigation, Islamabad vide letter dated 06.121022, a Special Joint Investigation Team was formed comprising of the officers of the ICT Police including CPO/headquarter as its chairman while DPO Saddar, SHO PS Ramna, Investigation officer of the case and any other member who may be nominated by IGP as members of committee to investigate the Arshad Sharif high profile case purely on merit.
Per the notification, the Special Joint Investigation Team after completion of an impartial, fair, free and transparent investigation shall submit a detailed and comprehensive report to the IG police, Islamabad.
According to an official, office of Chief Commissioner Islamabad can constitute or notify the team but the IGP office without consulting the high ups of district administration Islamabad constituted a committee comprising of police officials.
Whereas, according to section 19 of Anti-Terrorism Act XXVII of 1997, no investigation officer under the Act shall be an officer or police officer not below the rank of inspector or equivalent or if the government deems necessary, the JIT to be constituted by the government shall be headed by an investigation officer of police not below the rank of superintendent of police (BS-18) and other officer of JIT may include equivalent rank from Intelligence agencies, Armed forces and civil armed forces. The JIT shall comprise of five members and for the meeting purpose the quorum shall consists of three members.
The high ups of Islamabad police did not respond to a query of this scribe with regard to bypassing the district administration in constituting committee.
