PM approves appointment of Tariq Pasha, three others as NBP BoD members

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister has approved appointment of Tariq Pasha — a close aide of Ishaq Dar — and three others as Board of Members of National Bank of Pakistan.

Sources said that the Finance ministry has asked PM to approve Ashraf Mahmood Wathra as chairman while Nasim Ahmad, Ali syed and SAPM on Revenue Tariq Mehmood Pasha as directors of NBP board for the term of three years.

In addition to above, the Finance ministry has also proposed an additional Secretary (Internal Finance), Finance division may also be appointed as Ex-officio director on the NBP Board for effective oversight of the government.

Sources said that the appointment of these officials would not be presented in the Federal Cabinet meeting for approval.

The Board of NBP is currently dysfunctional with effect from April 16, 2022 due to having less than the minimum required five directors on the board.

Presently, Asif Jooma and Ahsan Ali Chugtai as directors while Farid Malik as private director (elected by private shareholders) are working in NBP Board.

Sources said that the Finance ministry has also finalized names for the appointment to the position of the President NBP and cabinet will approve the summary in the upcoming meeting.
