PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government had allocated Rs6.20 billion for the development of sports facilities in settled districts of which the directorate of sports has so far utilised Rs808 million.
The finance department has released Rs2.9bn for the development projects of the provincial sports directorate. However, According to sources of sports department, most of the projects included in the annual development of the current financial year couldn’t be started because to non-supply of funds by the finance department.
Moreover, officials said, purchase of goods from abroad for most of the development sports projects couldn’t be made because of the poor financial conditions of the province, due to which some important projects have been constructed but sports facilities are incomplete.
According to document of the provincial Finance Department, the sports directorate has utilised Rs 1 million on the construction of sports grounds across the province, Rs13mn has been utilised on the 1000 sports facility project, Rs35.8mn has been spent on reconstruction of hockey stadium in Swat’s Grassi Ground, Rs126.3mn has been spent on sports activities, Rs75mn on provision of missing sports facility in Swat, Rs108.3mn on
Hockey turf in Malakand and Buner, Rs76.4mn on provision of sports equipment in Peshawar sport Complex.Â
Similarly, Rs 46.6mn has been spent on Kalam stadium project, Rs10mn were spent on Palosai Sports Complex project, Rs8.9mn on Union Council Playground project. Rs 3.1 million has been spend the Hayatabad Sports Complex, Rs10.9 million in Talent Program Pakhtunkhwa project, Rs 17.8 million on the international standard indoor facility project in Buner, Rs 29.5 million on divisional level indoor facility project for women, Rs 10.1 million on upgradation of DI Khan and Mardan Sports Complex project.
Rs 35.99 million on Gradation Football Stadium , Rs 10.5 million on Hayatabad Swimming Pool project, Rs 2.8 million on Sports Complex in Swat project ,Rs 58.8 million on DI Khan and Charsada Hockey Stadiums , Re42.1 million have been spent on the recommendation of Arbab Niaz Stadium.
Most of the projects included in the development program of the current financial year have been delayed due to lack of funds.
