PCB issues update on Haris Rauf, Shaheen Afridi’s progress

KARACHI: Pakistan Cricket Board on Monday issued an update regarding the fitness progress of the team’s fast bowling mainstays Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf. “Left-arm fast bowler Shaheen Afridi will resume his rehabilitation under the national men’s team’s medical staff in Karachi from today,” said PCB in a media release.

It added, “While providing Shaheen top-notch care, this move will allow the medical staff to track his progression and pave way for his smooth return to action.”

Meanwhile, the interim selection committee and team management have invited right-arm fast bowler Haris Rauf to be assessed by the team’s medical staff so a decision on his availability for the three One-Day Internationals against New Zealand to be played next week can be made.

Pakistan will play a three-match ODI series against New Zealand commencing on January 9 in Karachi. The left-arm pacer Shaheen has been undergoing rehabilitation after he landed awkwardly and sustained knee discomfort in the final of the 2022 T20 World Cup, and, subsequently, missed the ongoing home Test season.

Haris, on the other hand, sustained a quad injury during the first Test against England in Rawalpindi which led to his exclusion from the remaining two matches before the New Zealand Test series.
