Top cop urges officers to leave comfort zone to fulfill obligations

LAHORE: Punjab Inspector General of Police Aamir Zulfiqar Khan on Tuesday termed Special Branch a very important formation of Punjab Police whose intelligence reports play a key role in maintaining law & order in the province. The IG Police directed the officers and personnel of the Special Branch to come out of their comfort zone to ensure performance of duty with dedication.

Punjab IG Police Aamir Zulfiqar Khan was presiding over the ROs meeting during his visit to the Special Branch Headquarters here. The Additional IG Special Branch briefed IG Punjab about the overall performance and professional matters of the Special Branch.

The IG Police said that work of the Special Branch is in field and therefore officers should leave offices and all the ROs should send reports keeping an effective vigilance of the law and order situation and activities of anti-state elements in their districts. He directed the Additional IG Special Branch to take daily progress from the ROs about the regional situation through video link and effectively monitor the situation and challenges of each region.

The IGP said that the shortage of personnel in the Special Branch will be overcome soon and provision of modern resources will also be ensured.

The IGP directed ROs Bahawalpur and DG Khan to hold a meeting with Additional IG South Punjab for working out massive crackdown on criminals to eliminate them permanently from Katcha area. Addressing the Police Darbar at special branch after the meeting, he said that he had spent four years in the special branch and had a good understanding of the working and problems of the special branch. He said that honor and selfless service of the public is the foremost duty, so all officers and personnel should take special care to protect the self-esteem of citizens during their duty.  The IG Police asked the supervisory officers to maintain close contact with the force and bridge the gap between Commander and the force.

The IGP heard to the problems of the officials in the Special Branch Headquarters and issued orders on the spot for their redressal. The IGP also distributed prizes and certificates to officers and personnel who performed well during duty. A large number of officers and personnel including Additional IG Special Branch, DIGs and Regional ROs were present on the occasion. At the end, IG Punjab also planted a sapling in office of the Special Branch.

DEATH OF ACCUSED IN CUSTODY

Meanwhile, Punjab Inspector General of Police Aamir Zulfiqar Khan took notice of the incident of the death of the accused while in custody in Bahawalpur and sought a report from the RPO Bahawalpur. He ordered DPO Bahawalpur to take strict departmental and legal action against those responsible after the inquiry.  Aamir Zulfiqar Khan said that torture or killing of the accused under custody is not acceptable in any case and those involved in such incidents will be sentenced.
