The performance of the national cricket team during an active home season, which ended with the Test series against New Zealand, has left the nation of cricket-lovers saddened. The team and its management suffer from lack of vision and inability to rectify inherent faults. It seems that they are not in a frame of mind to analyse causes objectively and take corrective measures to put up a better show.
Our players fail to play Test cricket the way they need to. It is high time the team was selected without myopic considerations of ethnicity and regional bias. A few changes made during the New Zealand series should be an eye-opener for all concerned.
Besides, there is a great and urgent need to inculcate interest in youth and give them good playing environment so that we may have more and better options to have a professionally balanced national team in the years ahead.
