Ishaq Dar asks govt directors to make active contribution for the best possible performance of PTCL

Islamabad: Federal Minister for Finance and revenue, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar has asked the nominee Directors of the Government on the Board of PTCL to make an active contribution for the best possible performance of the PTCL.

According to the Finance ministry, the Finance Minister on Monday chaired a meeting on the Telecom sector at the Finance Division.

Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication, Syed Amin Ul Haque, Federal Minister for Law and Justice Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar, , Secretary Finance, Secretary Privatization and Secretary IT & Telecom participated in the meeting.

The meeting discussed the Telecom sector in general and PTCL in particular. Finance Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar underscored the significance of this sector and emphasized that the nominee Directors of the Government on the Board of PTCL must make active contributions for the best possible performance of the PTCL.

It is pertinent to mention here that the government has included Advisor to Prime Minister Ahad cheema as a land utilization expert for three years in the PTCL board.

Meanwhile, Secretary Information and Telecom also chairs the board meeting of PTCL board.

Sources said that the government as early as possible wanted to resolve the PTCL properties dispute with Etisalat International to retrieve the outstanding sale proceeds of PTCL amounting to $800 million.

Sources claim that the government of Pakistan and Etisalat International were closer to settle the matters in the previous tenure of Finance minister  Ishaq Dar but after his removal from this post, the matter is still pending and we are hopeful that the current team can resolve this matter.
