ISLAMABAD: Imran Khan, chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has asked the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to dismiss a petition seeking his disqualification for not disclosing his rumoured daughter Tyrian Jade White in his nomination papers for the elections.
Khan argued the petition was not legally maintainable as he was no longer a member of the National Assembly.
One Sajid Mehmood had filed the petition in the court claiming that while Khan had made arrangements for Tyrian’s upkeep in the United Kingdom, he had failed to mention this in his nomination papers and affidavits.
Khan submitted his response to the court today, saying his resignation from the National Assembly was irrevocable and that he had no intention of taking up a seat in the current National Assembly.
He also argued that the IHC could not examine the veracity of any declaration made by a person who has ceased to hold public office.
The PTI chairman referred to previous similar cases filed in the IHC and Supreme Court, which were dismissed on the same grounds. He added that a case considered improper to proceed with previously cannot be taken up again under the law.
