Rashid’s indictment on allegations against Zardari scheduled for March 2

LAHORE: Sheikh Rashid Ahmad, the president of the Awami Muslim League (AML) party, has been set to be formally charged on March 2 by a district and sessions court in Islamabad in a case related to murder plot allegations against former president Asif Zardari.

He is charged with accusing Zardari of plotting to assassinate Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan. The case was filed by Rawalpindi president of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Raja Inayat ur-Rehman, and includes charges of criminal conspiracy, promoting enmity between different groups, and statements conducing to public mischief.

The court has issued an order to ensure the former interior minister’s appearance on the said date.

In the same case, Ahmad was granted bail by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday against surety bonds of Rs50,000 after he filed a bail plea. He was previously in Adiala Prison on a two-week judicial remand.

After his court appearance, Ahmad accused the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leadership of using planes of plunderers and mafia people. He also claimed he was asked to share passwords of mobile phones, which he said he gave to them.
