Lahore atop list of most polluted cities, Karachi sixth in world

KARACHI: Lahore ranked atop the list of the most polluted cities in the world with port city Karachi on sixth position in the new ranking on Saturday.

According to the Air Quality Index (AQI), Lahore is the first and Karachi the sixth most polluted city in the world. The amount of polluted dust in the atmosphere of Lahore has been recorded at 320 particulate meters.

The air in Lahore and Karachi has been declared extremely hazardous to the health of the citizens. The amount of polluted air in Karachi is recorded at 169 particulate meters.

It is pertinent here to mention that 151 to 200 degrees of pollution is harmful to health.

Pollution from 201 to 300 degrees is extremely harmful to health. A rating greater than 301 indicates hazardous contamination, the AQI said.

On January 18, Karachi had stood first in the list of the most polluted cities in the world, while Lahore had been declared the second most polluted city in the world.

The cities were declared first and second as per the report of the Air Quality Index.

The amount of pollution particles in the air of Karachi was 233 particulate meters, while the pollution particles in the air of Lahore were 209.

Meanwhile, the atmosphere of Karachi and Lahore was declared hazardous for the citizens.

According to the classification, pollution from 151 to 200 levels is harmful to health, while pollution from 201 to 300 levels is counted as extremely harmful to health.
