LHC defers ECP, Punjab governor’s appeals against poll date order

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has adjourned the hearing on intra court appeals filed by the Punjab governor and the Election Commission of Pakistan against the decision of a single bench of the court regarding announcing date for the election in Punjab within 90 day.

LHC Justice Chaudhry Muhammad Iqbal and Justice Muzammil Akhtar Shabbir heard the appeals on. But the bench adjourned the hearing for an indefinite period of time as the Supreme Court has already taken suo moto notice of the matter and the case proceedings are currently underway in the superior court.

The TLTP learnt that Punjab Governor Balighur Rehman and the Election Commission of Pakistan filed intra court appeals in the Lahore High Court against the decision of a single bench of the LHC which directed the authorities to announce date for elections in Punjab within 90 days. Lawyer Shehzad Mazhar appeared before the court on behalf of the Election Commission.
