KARACHI: The chairperson of the Karachi chapter of Jamaat-i-Islami, Hafiz Naeem ur-Rehman, has announced that the party will stage sit-ins across the metropolis to protest against the delay in the schedule of the local government election on the remaining 11 seats.
Addressing a sit-in outside the office of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Sindh chapter, Rehman expressed concern over the delay in the release of LG results and schedule for polls on the remaining 11 seats, despite spending five weeks.
Rehman alleged that the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) has once again betrayed Karachi with the ruling Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) after the “regime change” in April of last year.
He said that despite negative tactics, Jamaat continued its Haq Do Karachi Tehreek, and a large number of citizens took part in it. The people of the city gave a heavy mandate to the party and exposed the conspiracy of the PPP, he added.
Rehman pointed out that despite flawed voter lists and delimitations, Jamaat emerged as the biggest political party in Karachi in the recent LG polls. He stressed that the people of Karachi want to see development in the metropolis.
He also criticized the chief election commissioner (CEC), Sikandar Sultan Raja, saying that he performed duties as the chief and bureaucrat of all three provinces, but he is completely unaware of the real issues faced by the people of Karachi.
