I am writing to highlight the important role being played by the Office of Punjab Ombudsman, under the leadership of retired Maj. Azam Suleman Khan, a former chief secretary who possesses a deep understanding of the government and political landscape of Punjab, in providing speedy relief and justice to the hapless strata.
His good office has been instrumental in providing free relief to citizens who have been affected by maladministration or corruption in government departments. Instead of languishing in courts, the aggrieved people are advised to approach this office for swift justice.
Mr Khan has brought a renewed focus on accountability and transparency in public administration. Under his leadership, the office has taken numerous information technology-based steps to streamline the complaint redressal mechanism and provide relief to citizens.
One of the key achievements of the office has been the introduction of an online complaint system, which has made it easier for citizens to file complaints and track their progress. The office has also set up a helpline 1050 and launched an awareness campaign to educate citizens about their rights and how to file complaints.
In my opinion, the department has become an important institution for promoting good governance and ensuring accountability in public administration. It’s sanguine that Mr Khan’s leadership has played a crucial role in strengthening the ombudsman institution and making it more responsive to citizens’ needs.
I urge the government to provide this office with more resources to carry out its important work as it has the potential to become a model for other provinces, and I must add that Mr Khan’s leadership is a shining example of what can be achieved with dedication and commitment.
