Maulana Shakoor’s death: Court remands accused driver in custody for two days

ISLAMABAD: A local court on Sunday remanded in police custody for two-day physical Rao Gul Khan, the driver of the car involved in the accident in which Maulana Abdul Shakoor lost his life.

According to details, the police produced the driver Rao Gul Khan before Magistrate Malik Aman at the District and Sessions Court Islamabad.

Fahim Haider, counsel for the driver, and the Investigation Officer (IO) of Secretariat Police Station also appeared before the court with records. The investigating officer requested for a seven-day physical remand of the driver.

The Investigation Officer informed the court that there were five persons in the vehicle that hit Maulana Abdul Shakoor’s car. The driver was arrested at the scene, while two other passengers who sustained severe injuries are currently under-treatment at the hospital.

Furthermore, the investigating officer informed the court that the driver’s other two accomplices had fled the scene last night. The investigation is still pending for the accused’s drug test and the arrest of the other two accomplices.

“This is a sensitive matter and it requires sufficient time for investigations and inspections,” the officer pleaded.

After the hearing, the court granted a two-day physical remand of the accused driver, Rao Gul Khan, to the police.

POLICE PREPARE INITIAL REPORT

The Secretariat Police registered the registered on the complaint of Haji Qudratullah, who in his statement in FIR said that Mufti Abdul Shakoor came to his house before Iftar.

The minister left his residence in Parliament Lodges at 8:22 pm and later around 10, the driver of the minister informed Qudaratullah’s employee about the fatal road crash.

A Vigo driver hit Abdul Shakoor’s vehicle while driving recklessly, which resulted in the death of the minister on the spot, the FIR read and added that the incident should be investigated from every aspect.

Meanwhile, the police have formed an initial investigation report into the death of Mufti Abdul Shakoor, the source said. The vehicle that hit the JUI-F’s vehicle was moving at speed of 110 kilometers per hour against the fixed speed of 60km at Constitutional Avenue.

The vehicle that hit the federal minister’s vehicle was of a squad of a personality associated with the poultry business. There was no technical fault in the Vigo, the sources said. The Motor Vehicle Examiner report said the signals were off at the time of the accident.
