A clear case of scamming the customers

A few weeks ago, I received a message from my mobile service provider that I have been assigned a certain ringtone and would be charged Rs3 per day plus tax. Since I had not asked for any ringtone, I was able to get myself unsubscribed after going through the procedure.

On March 27, I called a friend and got an audio message that his phone was powered off. Before ending the call, I glanced at the screen and was surprised to see that a call was being clocked and it kept running till I pressed the ‘end call’ button.

On March 28, I received a message from 5188 informing me that a free missed call had been sent to the number I had dialled, but for subsequent missed calls I would be charged 12 paisa each. The procedure for unsubscribing to the service was mentioned.

Since when and why have the service providers started giving unwanted services to their users without their consent? The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority should restrain all the service providers from adding extra paid services unless specifically requested.
