Ali Zaidi case hearing postponed as police fail to provide charge sheet

KARACHI: Ali Haider Zaidi, the president of the Sindh chapter of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), appeared in the court of the Malir judicial magistrate for a case registered against him at a local police station.

However, the police were unable to submit the charge sheet and requested more time to do so. The court has adjourned the hearing of the case until May 16.

It is worth mentioning that a local court granted bail to Zaidi, who was arrested last week after a case was registered against him on fraud charges.

During the hearing, the police pleaded with the court to extend the physical remand of Ali Zaidi, but the court turned down their request. The complainant, a property dealer named Fazal Elahi, had filed the first information report against Zaidi under Sections 34, 506, 420, 471, and 468 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

In the FIR, Elahi claimed that Zaidi had taken a loan of Rs180 million from him in 2013 and had given him papers of a property worth Rs16.7 million as surety.

The case is still ongoing, and further developments are expected in the coming days.
