ISLAMABAD: Lawyers of the Lahore and Rawalpindi Bar Associations observed a complete boycott of courts on Wednesday in protest against the arrest of PTI Chairman Imran Khan from outside the Islamabad High Court’s premises.
The black coats neither appeared in any court in connection with their cases, nor prisoners were brought to courts from any prison in Lahore and Rawalpindi. Sessions courts adjourned all cases till next date of hearing.
Both the bar associations convened general house meetings where their leaders condemned arrest of PTI chairman and demanded his immediate release. The lawyers questioned the “logic behind the decision of Imran Khan’s arrest” and regretted that all the corrupt politicians who looted public exchequer mercilessly were enjoying powers while a public leader was arrested, tortured and manhandled on trumped-up charges merely to please “someone.”
The Lahore and Rawalpindi Bar Associations office-bearers also expressed resentment over torture by security personnel on court employees and lawyers during arrest of Imran Khan.
While strongly condemning the incident, they demanded the authorities to take strict action against the police and Rangers personnel involved in torture.
