SCBA president declares Punjab government ‘illegal and unconstitutional’

ISLAMABAD: Abid Zuberi, the president of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), made a statement on Monday asserting that the caretaker government of Punjab became illegal and unconstitutional after May 14.

Speaking to the media, he criticised the government of Mohsin Naqvi for failing to comply with the Supreme Court’s orders regarding the conduct of elections, suggesting that they could face disqualification as a consequence.

Zuberi highlighted that the Constitution does not provide any provision for extending the election date further, emphasising the importance of adhering to constitutional principles.

Addressing concerns about potential pressure on the Supreme Court due to ongoing sit-ins, Zuberi reassured the judges of the Supreme Court would not succumb to any form of pressure from politicians or external forces.
