LAHORE: Punjab police have claimed to arrest over two thousand miscreants involved in May 9 attacks, vandalism, violence, and arson on government institutions, according to a report on Sunday.
According to police officials, the process of arresting alleged rioters among the leaders and workers of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf is underway with the help of CCTV cameras of the Safe City Authority, video recordings from mobile phones and private cameras, and geofencing.
They are wanted in cases lodged against them under the Anti-Terrorism Act all over the province for carrying out attacks on the Corps Commander House in Lahore, public and private buildings, law enforcement agencies, and their vehicles.
The sources said that raids continued in the homes of PTI workers and leaders even late at night.
The Punjab police claimed that at least 162 police officers and officials were injured in the violent activities of the miscreants across Punjab.
The violent mobs vandalized more than 97 vehicles used by Lahore and Punjab Police.
Punjab’s caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi has said that all cases against miscreants involved in violence will be sent to anti-terrorism courts and military courts.
“No perpetrator of a crime will be left unpunished,” he said. “The miscreants will be brought to justice with evidence and proofs,” the chief minister said.
