Ambassador Xie Feng meets with former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger

Ambassador of China to the United States, Xie Feng, met with former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger in Kent, Connecticut on Friday, expressing best wishes from the Chinese side to Dr. Kissinger on his 100th birthday.

The two sides had an in-depth exchange of views on China-U.S. relations and international and regional issues of common interest, according to a statement released by the Chinese embassy in the U.S.

Kissinger, who turns 100 on Saturday, is recognized as a trailblazer and lifelong contributor to China-U.S. relations.

In his recent interview with The Economist, Kissinger pointed out, “The fate of humanity depends on whether America and China can get along.”

He warned that “We’re in the classic pre-World War I situation, where neither side has much margin of political concession and in which any disturbance of the equilibrium can lead to catastrophic consequences.”

“They say China wants world domination… The answer is that they [in China] want to be powerful,” he said.
