CPNE elects new office-bearers for year 2023-24

KARACHI: The Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) on Saturday elected its new office-bearers here during its election for the year 2023-24.

According to the election results, Irshad Arif of Daily 92 News Lahore was elected as President CPNE, Anwar Sajdi of Daily Elekht Karachi Senior Vice President, Ijazul Haq of Daily Express (Karachi) as Secretary General, Hamid Hussain Abidi of Daily Aman Karachi as Deputy Secretary General, Aamir Mehmood (Kiran Group Karachi) as Vice President Sindh and Yusuf Nizami of Daily Pakistan Today Lahore as Vice President Punjab.

Tahir Farooq of Daily Ittihad Peshawar was chosen as Vice President KP, Sardar Khan Niazi (Niyarakh Pakistan Group of Newspapers) as Vice President Islamabad, Arif Baloch (Daily Balochistan Times Quetta) as Vice President Balochistan, Ghulam Nabi Chandio (Daily Pak Karachi) as Finance Secretary and Zubair Mehmood (Daily Situation Faisalabad) was elected Information Secretary.

On this occasion, Kazim Khan said that CPNE has struggled for the promotion of freedom of expression in the country before and will continue its struggle in the future.

Newly-elected President CPNE Irshad Arif said that the protection of freedom of journalism and freedom of expression has been the aim since the first day and the actions of former President Kazim Khan are a beacon for him from which he have got new courage.

“I will continue their initiatives in sha Allah with the support of the newly elected Standing Committee of CPNE. He further said that in the context of the current situation of the country, the coming time is looking very difficult, but we will never tolerate any restrictions on the media. Finally he thanked all the members of CPNE,” he added.
