ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari arrived in Lahore on Saturday with an objective to net major politicians who have left Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI).
The PPP chairman will stay in Punjab capital for two days. During his stay, he will hold meetings with different political personalities.
Sources said that around 25-30 politicians belonging to different districts of Punjab will announce joining the Pakistan Peoples Party today.
His father, former president and PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari is also in Lahore which has become a hub of political activities especially after the emergence of a new political party launched by estranged PTI leader Jehangir Khan Tareen. Many PTI deserters are flocking to the Tareen’s party but the PPP is also bagging its share in this jumping ship saga by the Tehreek-i-Insaf’s apostates.
Zardari held consultations with PML-Q leader Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and several other political figures regarding upcoming general elections in the country.
The PPP leadership wants to win over the PTI deserters from central and south Punjab to strengthen party position in these areas.
Many PTI leaders have recently announced joining the PPP and a lot more will do the same to remain politically vibrant after a slow but steady dismantling of their party following the violent incidents of May 9.
