Pervaiz Elahi undergoes checkup at PIC after health deteriorated in prison

LAHORE: The health of former Punjab chief minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Central President Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi deteriorated in prison and he was taken to the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) for medical tests and doctors’ examination after complaining of chest pains.

However, the PTI president was shifted back to Camp Jail after undergoing necessary tests and examination at the PIC. According to prison officials, the reports of Pervaiz Elahi’s electrocardiogram (ECG) and echocardiogram are awaited.

According to reports, the former CM was having some cardiac issues and his condition was getting unstable under the custody. He was brought under strict security arrangements and heavy contingent of police remained stationed outside Punjab Institute of Cardiology.

Pervaiz Elahi underwent several tests to determine the factor causing inconvenience. After the examination spanning over hours, the authorities observed some sort of stability in his medical condition and decided to shift him to camp jail.

It would be worth-while to mention that Pervaiz Elahi is currently under detention at camp jail due to his judicial remand in a case regarding fraudulent inductions in Punjab Assembly’s staff.

The former chief minister was sent to prison on June 4 for 14-day judicial remand by a judicial magistrate in Lahore after his arrest by the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) in a case pertaining to bribery and illegal recruitments. The court had denied ACE’s request for physical remand.

This was his third arrest in two days on Saturday after two separate courts dismissed charges against him.

Pervaiz Elahi is among the remaining members of the PTI leadership yet standing with the party. Most senior party leaders including Fawad Chaudhry, Shireen Rehman, Usman Buzdar, Maleeka Bokhari have called it quits, with some announcing a break from politics altogether.
