- Says PTI leader determined won’t let name of Afridis down come what may
- Reveals he worried for safety of family, grieved over passing away of brother
ISLAMABAD: Sher Afzal Khan Marwat, counsel for incarcerated senior PTI leader Shehryar Afridi, on Thursday made startling and shocking revelations that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader is being kept in the most notorious death cell, where previously Mumtaz Qadri had been kept before being hanged.
“Shehryar Afridi is lodged in the death cell with HIV and AIDS affected and TB patients, in blatant violation of the Islamabad High Court (IHC), which has ordered shifting of Afridi from the death cell to an entitled barrack.”
Shehryar Afridi’s lawyer Sher Afzal Khan Marwat made the startling and shocking revelations after holding meeting with him. Sher Afzal Khan said: “Today I met Shehriyar Afridi in Jail. I shockingly learned that contrary to the IHC orders to remove Shehryar from the death cell to an entitled barrack, the jail authorities, under the DC Islamabad directions, shifted him to the most notorious death cell, which was previously occupied by Mumtaz Qadri before being hanged.”
He stated that still in solitary confinement, with no bathroom, Shehryar has constantly been denied a pillow, cushion, or foam for sleep or leaning, adding that before placing Shehryar in the draconian death cell, the jail authorities had piled up HIV/AIDS affected and TB patients in the same.
Sher Afzal Khan revealed that he was grieved over the passing away of his elder brother and expressed his wish to have seen the deceased at least once before burial. “Today I found him very tense and deeply concerned about the safety of his young daughters and spouse, and he said he wished he could have shifted them to any place on earth from Pakistan,” Sher Afzal added.
Shehryar Afridi’s counsel went on to say that he looked pale and physically weak and gave me a message for Imran Khan, adding that his left arm was still undergoing paralysis, and his blood pressure level was abnormally high and complained about the lack of essential healthcare facilities.
“Today, the LHC Rawalpindi bench fixed the 19th and 20 of June in his cases. He is still fighting, but I saw pain and helplessness in his eyes for his family’s safety,” he added.
Sher Afzal said that Afridi’s kids and wife have already shifted to an undisclosed location, and the kid’s education has been discontinued. “He is fighting with himself and says he is vulnerable, but he will not let the name of Afridis down, come what may. I hugged him tight, kissed his forehead and left him with a promise of uniting him with his family at the earliest,” Sher Afzal added.
