FIA registers case against more than 6 accused for money laundering/terror financing through Crypto currency

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has registered a First Information Report (FIR) against 6 identified and 3 to 4 unidentified suspects on charges of money laundering and financing of proscribed terrorist organizations through crypto currency.

Sources say, a syndicate of suspects namely Muhammad Riaz, Zeeshan, Muhammad furqan, Sami Ullah, Muhammad Imran and Muhammad Ullah and three to four other unknown persons have links with transnational groups of money laundering and financing of terrorism.

They have a criminal intent of money laundering and financing of proscribed terrorist organizations in Afghanistan via Dubai in return for exchange of huge amounts of foreign currency/crypto currency.

Sources further said that the Counter-Terrorism Wing of FIA with the help of local police conducted a raid on a location in G7 Islamabad and apprehended the accused while three suspects escaped from the spot.

The team has recovered Rs63.3 million cash, laptop and CPU which was taken into possession through seizure memo in the presence of witnesses, sources added.

The above mentioned persons in interrogation revealed that they are dealing with Crypto currency and illegal business of currency exchange and hundi/Hawala.

Sources said that the accused also disclosed that they have made millions of dollars transactions and further transfer to another suspect namely Aziz Ullah in Dubai through Hundi/Hawala and Crypto currency exchange.

They were also supposed to exchange 200,000 dollars which were sent to Afghanistan via Dubai, the accused informed the interrogators.

Sources said that the persons have been found involved in commission of offences punishable under section 10, 12 PECA 2016 r/w 23 FERA 1947 r/w AMLA 2010 r/w 109 PPC while the role of Muhammaz Riaz and Furqan will be thrashed out during the course of investigation.
