NOWSHERA: Syed Khurshid Shah, a leader of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Minister for Water Resources, said deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif and former president Asif Ali Zardari have reached an agreement to establish a caretaker setup for the upcoming general elections.
He emphasized that the elections will not be delayed, adhering to the constitutional and legal requirements.
The minister highlighted the government’s unity with coalition partners in ensuring that the general elections are conducted in accordance with the constitution and the law.
He regarded the coalition government’s achievements, such as securing a deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and finalising the budget, as significant milestones.
Shah stressed that transparent and impartial general elections are the only solution to the ongoing crisis. He also noted that inflation in the country has started to decrease.
Reiterating the PPP’s track record of leading the nation “out of disappointments”, the minister expressed confidence in their ability to navigate the current challenges.
Addressing the issue of the census, Shah assured it was conducted transparently and in compliance with the rules throughout the country, including Karachi and Sindh.
He further mentioned that the objections raised by the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) and Jamaat-i-Islami have been addressed. Regarding Naeem ur-Rehman, Shah remarked that he seemed disoriented due to his failure to secure the mayorship, leading to his critical statements.
Coalition parties in consensus about caretaker setup
Meanwhile, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Lahore Division Information Secretary Faiza Malik said there was a consensus among the coalition parties on caretaker set-up after the dissolution of national and other two provincial assemblies.
Talking to a delegation of party workers who came to meet her at her residence here on Sunday, she that month of August would prove to be the month of political changes in the country. The PPP would field strong candidates in the upcoming general elections in Punjab and electoral field would not be left empty in any constituency, she asserted.
Faiza Malik said that the recommendations of the District Election Boards were being finalized which would be sent to the secretary general Pakistan People’s Party by mid-July.
