LAHORE: As many as 18 Pakistani nationals who were imprisoned in India crossed over to their home country through the Wagah-Attari border crossing after they were released by Indian authorities on Friday after completion of sentence.
Indian border authorities handed over the 18 men including six fishermen and 12 civilians to Pakistan Rangers officials at the border, sources in the paramilitary force said.
After entering into Pakistan, the returned countrymen chanted slogans of “Pakistan Zindabad”.
Those released from Indian prisons included Muhammad Hanif, Muhammad Waqas, Nazish, Ghulam Rsool, Muhammad Ramazan, Muhammad Tariq, Muhammad Ali, Muhammad Shan, Long Muhammad Chandani, Ahmad, Roshan, Ali, Abdul Ameen, Muhammad Arif, Fareed Alam, Muhamad Ramazan and Mushtaq Ahmad.
During last four months, Pakistan released 400 Indian prisoners, mostly fishermen while India released 22 Pakistanis in May and 18 today.
On July 1st, Pakistan and Indian exchanged the list of prisoners as per which total number of Indian prisoners in Pakistani jails was 308 which include 266 fishermen and 42 civilians while number of Pakistani prisoners in Indian jails was 417 which include 343 civilians and 74 fishermen of which 18 have been released.
