Mushahid Anwar takes charge as UoG vice chancellor

GUJRAT: Prof Dr Muhammad Mushahid Anwar has taken charge as vice chancellor of the University of Gujrat (UoG).

In a ceremony here at Hafiz Hayat Campus of the UoG, Prof. Dr Mushahid Anwar, who held the position of Pro Vice Chancellor, was handed over charge of the office of vice chancellor by the outgoing vice chancellor, Dr Shabbar Atiq, who had completed his four-year stint at the helm.

A warm send-off was accorded to the outgoing VC by the new VC, his office staff and other colleagues. The personnel of the UoG security presented a guard of honour to the new vice chancellor.

Senior faculty members, deans, directors, chairpersons, HoDs, and other staff welcomed Dr Mushahid Anwar and expressed their well-wishes for the new VC. They included Registrar Muhammad Naeem Butt, senior academician and former dean Prof. Dr Muhammad Faheem Malik, deans Prof. Dr Zahid Yousuf, Prof. Dr Faisal Mahmood Mirza, Prof. Dr Shahid Iqbal, Controller Examinations Tanzila Qamar, Director Translation Studies Centre Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU), Islamabad, Dr Ghulam Ali, Registrar AIOU Maj. (retd) Raja Omar Yunus, prominent members of the civil society and others.

They all congratulated Dr Mushahid Anwar and expressed their well-wishes in his new role as the vice chancellor.

Dr Mushahid Anwar thanked them all and reiterated his commitment towards promoting the cause of higher education in the country.

“The Pakistani youth has a lot of potential,” he said, adding that he would do all in his capacity to facilitate their academic journey at the varsity.

Dr Mushahid Anwar, who received his PhD in geography with a focus on urban landscape ecology in 2006 from the Salzburg University, Austria, has over 15 years of experience in teaching, research, and administration at different universities in Pakistan. Previously, he served as the Dean of Faculty of Science since 2020 at the UoG. Moreover, he successfully supervised the research work of two PhD and 50 MPhil scholars, in addition to critically evaluating more than 80 MPhil and 10 PhD theses. He is a prolific writer who gets published in international and national journals.
