ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) released a comprehensive report on Wednesday, highlighting the devastating loss of life and property caused by recent monsoon rains across Pakistan.
Since June 25, a staggering 150 people have tragically lost their lives in various rain-related accidents, and 233 individuals have been injured throughout the country, as per the report.
The victims include 62 men, 25 women, and at least 63 children who lost their lives. Among the injured, 99 were men, 62 were women, and 72 were children.
The provinces of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have suffered the most fatalities, with 66 and 41 lives lost, respectively. Balochistan reported six fatalities due to the relentless downpours.
In addition to the loss of lives, Sindh and Azad Kashmir also experienced fatalities, with 15 people killed in Sindh and 6 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Furthermore, 11 people lost their lives in the federal capital, Islamabad.
The impact of the heavy rains extended beyond loss of lives, with hundreds of families facing property damage. The report indicated that a total of 468 houses across the country were damaged during this period.
The monsoon season in Pakistan has always presented challenges with regards to flooding, landslides, and other natural calamities. However, this year’s rains have proven to be particularly severe, resulting in an unusually high number of casualties and significant property damage.
