‘Cash-strapped’ govt increases ‘driver allowance’ to all grade 22 retired civil, military officers

ISLAMABAD: The so-called cash-strapped federal government has very generously increased ‘driver allowance’ from Rs14000 to Rs25000 to all retired officers in BPS 22 including Federal Secretaries as well as Lt Gen and Equivalent on their retirement.

According to Office Memorandum issued by the Finance ministry with the title Payment of Monetized value of salary of a driver or an orderly to all retired officers in BPS 22 including Federal Secretaries as well as Lt Gen and Equivalent on their retirement.

In continuation of Finance Division’s O.M no F.1(2)R-4.2016(Pt) dated July 13, 2017, the monetized value of salary of a driver or an orderly admissible to all retired officers in BPS-22, including Federal Secretaries as well as Lt. Generals and equivalent (including Chairman JCSC, Service Chiefs and Generals) is increased from Rs 14.000, to Rs. 25,000/- subject to conditions already prescribed under Finance Division’s 0.M No. 1(5)R-4/95 dated 31.07.2000.

Sources said that grade 22 retired employees were getting Rs14000 driver allowance which is now increased to Rs25000.

Earlier, they were not provided drivers but just received salary of drivers along with pension but now the retired grade 22 officers will get driver plus orderly allowance as well as pension, sources added.

It is pertinent to note that all grade 20 and above officers of federal government under the monetization policy are getting driver allowances ranging from Rs 10000 to Rs14000 per month if they even privately take the services of driver or not.
