GUJRAT: Senior journalists, columnists and editors from the print and digital media in Gujrat have vowed to support the cause and uplift of higher education by joining forces with the University of Gujrat.
It was announced at a Press conference during a visit of the UoG Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr Muhammad Mushahid Anwar to the Gujrat Press Club the other day.
Dr Mushahid’s candid approach and student-centric policies have earned him so good a repute that he is regarded the most suitable person to replace Dr Shabbar Atiq whose four-year tenure had ended earlier this week.
President Gujrat Press Club Bisharat Lodhi, former presidents Abdul Sattar Mirza, Raja Taimor Tariq and other senior journalists warmly welcomed the UoG VC upon his arrival at the Press Club and expressed their satisfaction upon his taking the helm of the varsity.
They promised to extend support to Dr Mushahid and go all out to win support for all the positive initiatives to promote higher education in the Gujrat region.
They called upon the VC to revive the UoG link with the media by restarting workshops and seminars for the training of the media on regular basis.
“I am a straightforward person. I am not afraid of criticism as long as it is positive and constructive,” Dr Mushahid said.
He threw light on the few initiatives he took recently, including a full-fee waiver for deserving students from the first semester and medical treatment expense up to a maximum of Rs100,000.
He stressed a positive role of media in advancing the cause of higher education, saying the national dream of sustainable development cannot be achieved without the media sincerely and actively fulfilling its responsibilities.
The journalists assured the vice chancellor that the media will be putting their best foot forward to help UoG achieve higher education goals.
