BEIJING: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Sunday that China is ready to work with the new Cambodian government to carry forward the friendship between the two countries.
Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks during a meeting with Cambodian Prime Minister-Designate Hun Manet.
The new Cambodian government is committed to developing friendly relations with China, as Hun Manet conveyed to Wang.
Cambodia is looking forward to intensifying high-level exchanges with China, strengthening strategic coordination, and negotiating and signing a new version of the action plan for building a China-Cambodia community with a shared future as soon as possible, he said.
Noting that Taiwan, Xinjiang, Xizang, and Hong Kong are all China’s internal affairs, Hun Manet said Cambodia will continue to abide by the one-China principle.
On his part, Wang said China is ready to forge close ties with the new Cambodian government and promote a deeper comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between China and Cambodia to usher in a new era of high-quality, high-level and high-standard China-Cambodia community with a shared future.
China is willing to work with Cambodia to prepare for high-level exchanges in the next stage, enhance the synergy between the Belt and Road Initiative and the Pentagon Strategy proposed by the Cambodian government, and help it accelerate industrialization and agricultural modernization, said Wang.
Both sides should strengthen the exchange of governance experiences, promote cooperation in law enforcement and security, and increase people-to-people exchanges and communication among the youth and sister cities of both countries, he added.
Cambodia marked the final leg of Wang’s Southeast Asia tour, which included visits to Singapore and Malaysia.
