Cypher case: Qureshi’s physical remand extended for three days

ISLAMABAD: The special court established under Official Secrets Act on Friday extended physical remand of PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi for another three days in cypher case.

Special Court Islamabad Judge Abul Hasnaat heard the cypher case against PTI’s Vice Chairman Qureshi in a closed room. The FIA produced Qureshi in the court where Senior Advocate Shoaib Shaheen represented Qureshi while Shah Khawar appeared on behalf of the FIA in the court as special prosecutor.

During proceedings, the special prosecutor argued that the PTI chairman had waved cypher in a rally while Shoaib Shaheen told the court that there could be several copies of the cypher. During the hearing, Qureshi told the court that he denied charges of stealing the cypher, saying being a foreign minister, had sent the cypher to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

On the occasion, the FIA’s special prosecutor requested the court for granting Qureshi’s physical remand for another nine days, which was opposed by Shoaib Shaheen. After listening to arguments from both sides, the court reserved its decision. Later, the court announced its verdict, extending Qureshi’s physical for another three days.
