PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) received a total of 2,546 foreign and 9,704,325 domestic tourists from January 1 to August 28, 2023.
According to data compiled by the police, levies officials, and the district administration, this is an increase of 9.7% in the number of domestic tourists from last year, when 8,859,536 domestic tourists visited the province. However, the number of foreign tourists decreased by 13.4% from last year’s 2,947.
The decline in foreign tourists is likely due to the global financial crunch. However, the increase in domestic tourists is a positive sign for the tourism industry in KP.
The most popular tourist destinations in KP are: Galiyat, Dir Upper, Malam Jabba, Chitral, Upper and Lower, and Kaghan and Naran.
The provincial government has taken several measures to improve the security and facilities for tourists, including the launch of a special bus service for tourists.
Caretaker Minister for Tourism Barrister Feroz Jamal Shah said that special measures are being taken for the security of domestic and foreign tourists. He said that a special bus service has also been started for the convenience of tourists initially started for Khanpur Dam, Takhtbhai Ruins, and Peshawar. “There is a plan to extend the bus service to more tourist spots”, he informed and added the government is committed to promoting tourism in KP and providing a safe and secure environment for tourists.
