PM Kakar directs to establish sustainable monitoring system to prevent smuggling

ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar has directed the Customs authorities to establish sustainable monitoring system at irregular border crossings to prevent smuggling in the country.

The directives were issued by him on Tuesday while presiding over a detailed briefing by the Ministry of Commerce in Islamabad.

The caretaker prime minister was briefed about various proposed strategies to increase domestic exports. Possible measures were highlighted by the Ministry to curb smuggling in the country while proposals were also given to improve efficiency for better scanning and inspection of trade goods.

The meeting took stock of various aspects of trade under the Afghanistan Transit Trade Agreement.

Several measures to discourage smuggling and promote trade through legal channels in the country also came under discussion.
