ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lashed out at the previous PDM government of ‘crooks’ for spending around Rs10 billion on advertisements during the past 16 months long rule so as the media could not raise voice against the rising fascism and economic disaster in the country.
In a statement, the PTI spokesperson strongly reacted to the massive spending by the PDM government on media advertisements and said that the shameful PML-N-led PDM government used the taxpayers’ money to silence the media.
He said that the details of the expenditure incurred by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in the name of advertisements were shameful and embarrassing because the country was reeling under severe financial crisis.
PTI Spokesperson stated that the information that came to light showed as how the criminals used advertisements as a means of political bribery and lies to provide state patronage.
He said that incompetent and inept group spent around Rs10 billion on misleading propaganda in just 16 months, adding that the criminal rulers of PDM lied to the Supreme Court and refused to give money for the elections to deny the right of 17o million voters of Punjab and Pakhtunkhwa.
PTI spokesperson went on to say that after causing the worst political, constitutional and economic disaster in the country, the media was silenced through advertisements, as these hefty amounts were transferred to the coffers of the owners of certain TV channels and newspapers and journals in total disregard of merit and transparency.
He stated that with these Rs10 billion, the media was mobilized to divide the nation, fuel hatred, discredit the judiciary and to make the worst attack against the constitution and democracy successful.
PTI spokesperson said that under the guise of advertisements, the media was persuaded to remain silent on the serious violation of civil liberties and restrictions on communication and expression.
He stated that after the promotion of bribery in politics, the criminal attempts to promote the culture of bribery in the media was a shameful example of mafia politics.
However, PTI spokesperson, said that the nation rejected all the tactics of lies and crime with its political consciousness. He said that PTI would advance the agenda of freedom of expression and communication and the welfare of journalists in accordance with the spirit of the Constitution.
