Peshawar City Govt unveils Rs514.63b surplus budget for 2023-24

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar’s Capital Metropolitan Government has unveiled a budget of Rs514.63 bln for the fiscal year 2023-24, recording a surplus of Rs384.88 mln.

Mayor of Peshawar, Zabir Ali presented the budget at the Peshawar City Council Hall, estimating revenues at Rs4.23 bln. The city government currently holds Rs9.07 bln in its accounts, while expenses are projected at Rs5.20 bln.

The Peshawar Mayor explained that the revenue includes a grant of Rs1 bln from the provincial government, Rs645.49 mln from the Provincial Finance Commission, Rs500 mln from non-transferable properties, Rs120 mln from rent of properties, Rs337.2 mln from the Hajji Camp bus stand, Rs71.47 mln from the Charsadda bus stand, Rs91.1 mln from the Kohat Road bus stand, Rs26.5 mln from the Factory bus stand, Rs57.5 mln from bus terminals, Rs114.9 mln from the BRT corridor rent, Rs121.21 mln from the Municipal Boys’ College, Rs212.12 mln from the Municipal Girls’ College, Rs21.4 mln from the Women’s Degree College, and Rs2.2 mln from the funeral vehicle service.

According to the budget document, total expenditures for municipal services will be Rs1.69 bln. Similarly, Mayor Peshawar’s office expenses are estimated at Rs200.21 mln. The budget also allocates Rs1.69 bln for the staff’s salaries and expenses of the Capital Metropolitan, Rs200 mln for directorate’s expenses, Rs78.19 mln for the Eastern Zone expenses, and Rs51.26 mln for Western Zone expenses.

This surplus budget indicates a positive financial outlook for Peshawar in the coming fiscal year, with plans for substantial investments in various municipal services and infrastructure projects.
